Our Weekend in San Diego

After living in Southern California for four years we finally made our way to San Diego over Memorial Day weekend, and you can bet we’ll be going back. The city itself had so much to see and do. Since we took Pixel with us we stuck to the great outdoors for the majority of the trip. But we didn’t mind because the weather there was beautiful (but when is it not?).
Our first stop was Balboa Park. This place was gorgeous (and huge)! We explored all the Gardens, grabbed hot dogs from one of the food stands, and spent the afternoon relaxing in the grass. I think if I lived here I would visit this place every weekend.
We stayed in Little Italy at a small hotel called Urban Boutique Hotel. It was a great little place. The staff were super friendly and they even greeted Pixel with a milkbone when we arrived. Right down the street from where we stayed was a fire house museum. It was closed, but we still had to take a picture of Pixel out front.
The rest of the evening was spent walking through Little Italy, enjoying a pizza from Filippi’s, and cannolis from a bakery next door. I loved the quaintness of Little Italy and all the details they had that really made this place a gem.

This is the face of a pup that got the first bite of our cannoli. He’s a quick one.

The next day we crossed the bridge and went over to Coronado Island. Pixel had never been to a beach where he was allowed off-leash. Unfortunately, LA doesn’t have an off-leash dog beach so we wanted to take advantage of being near one while we were there. As soon as Pixel’s paws touched the sand, he was the happiest pup I have ever seen. He had the time of his life running in and out of the water, digging in the sand and playing with EVERY dog.

Once he was good and tired, we made our way back to the car, grabbed a California Burrito on our way out of town and headed home. Pixel slept the entire drive. That’s when you know it was a good weekend. Thanks San Diego for such a perfect weekend and thanks to all our San Diego friends for suggesting all these amazing places. We should have you plan our trips more often.
