Loving Letterpress

Every time Jamie and I have decided to print something on our letterpress up until this point, we’ve been learning something new or working on something that needed both our full attentions to accomplish. That makes it pretty hard to document the process. We’ve wanted to make a video of our printing for a while now, so this past weekend we decided to print a simple one color design that only took one person at a time to print. We were able to take a lot of nice video with our digital camera and put it together in a little video. For those of you who really had no idea what a letterpress was when you found out we got one, hopefully this will be a good visual overview of what we use it for. We hope you love it!

The video was super fun to make. We decided at the beginning to use all natural light coming in from our living room window. I wanted to use our press table and all of our printing supplies as background texture elements as much as possible. We used our 50mm lens for everything except the overhead shot of the press we used our 24mm.
The short little intro at the beginning was also really fun to make. I inserted our logo into that shot digitally. It was a lot of fun for me because I got to simulate the perspective of the camera’s angle, depth of field, and even the lighting. And I even came up with and played the little two chord jingle with the help of my fantastic wife. We felt very accomplished. The clip will be before all of our videos in the future.
Oh, and the recipe card we printed in this video will soon be available in our etsy store.
