Hey everyone, this is Jake. I know I don’t get to post on our blog very often, but when I have the time I really do enjoy it. This morning Jamie and I found a video shot from the perspective of a dog at a dog park, and thought we’d share it with you. Click here to watch on youtube. …
S’meaches
One of my favorite things about summertime is sitting around a campfire with friends and roasting s’mores. The warm gooey marshmallow and melted chocolate make a perfect pair. I would have never dreamed of replacing the chocolate in a s’more. That is until I saw this video from Claire Thomas. Beautiful cinematography, fun music and nice typography can be pretty persuasive. Now I’m inspired to make a …
April Fools with Google
Did you prank anyone on April Fools? I always look forward to see what crazy thing Google is going to come up with. They did three prank videos this year (that we found). My favorite was Gmail Tap. It’s so perfectly ridiculous. I love how well designed everything Google does is–even for April Fools.
Movable Type Truck
Photo by Derek Fagerstrom via Movable Type Have you heard of the Movable Type Truck? Kyle Durrie, a letterpress printer from Portland, Oregon, rebuilt a 1982 Chevy Step Van into a mobile letterpress studio. The name and idea is a genius. If you don’t know, movable type refers to the system of printing that uses moveable pieces of type such as letters, numbers, and punctuation to reproduce the elements …
Flag Trivia
One of the coolest things about Jake working on Who Knew is that he learns a lot of random, cool facts about anything and everything. Today the episode is about flag trivia. You won’t believe this but California’s flag (which currently has a bear on it) was supposed to instead have a pear on it!!! The designer misread bear as …
Kony 2012
Sorry this post is coming so late in the day. I had some stuff I had to take care of for work this morning. Today I want to share something with you that is really important to me. You might have seen it on the news or posted around the internet this past week. It’s the Kony 2012 film by …
The Story Behind Keeping Calm
Yesterday I found a great video explaining the history of one of my favorite WWII propaganda posters. I could go into more detail about it, but the video tells you all you need to know! Until yesterday, I had no idea the poster was never displayed until 2000. I love learning about the story of art that has inspired me. I’ve …
Fresh Impressions on Brandmarks (from a 5-year-old)
I came across this cute video this morning over on Moglea’s blog. The 5-year-old daughter of a graphic designer offers her insight on corporate logos. I’d say she is off to a good start with her design future. …And how about those Grammys last night? I was so excited about Adele winning all 6 of the Grammys she was nominated for. She …
The Making of a Tradition
I thought this would be a nice send off to your weekend. You can’t beat a video about letterpress (particularly Hammerpress), with this much style. You’ll be wishing you could get in there and get your hands dirty–I know I do. It’s a good watch…enjoy! Realtree | The Making of a Tradition from MAMMOTH on Vimeo.
Hitler Isn’t Happy
As you may already know, a video competition has been going on at my office all year. Any employee can make any type of video and upload it to youtube. The video with the most views by the end of the year wins an all expenses paid trip to New York City for two. I’ve already made an animation that …
