DIY Clay Monogram Ornaments & Gift Tags

This year I decided that instead of paper tags I would make these monogram tags and attach them to my gifts. Once the present is open they can be hung on the Christmas tree. It’s a multipurpose tag that is also an additional gift. This is not a tag that is going to get thrown away! If you still have some people you need gifts for you can always wrap one of these up. Most importantly they are so easy to make and add such charm to any gift.
You Will Need
  • Clay (I got mine from Michaels)
  • Letterpressed Cookie Cutters
  • Rolling Pin
  • Wooden Skewer
  • 1/8 in (3mm) Wide Ribbon
  • Fine Grit Sandpaper (220 works well)
Begin by rolling out some clay. Start with a small amount because the clay starts to dry out. When you have the clay about 1/4″ thick cut out letters with your cookie cutters. Place on a flat surface.
Next take your wooden skewer and punch a hole for the ribbon. Let dry overnight.
The next day when the clay is completely dry, take some fine grit sandpaper and gently go over the edges to remove any rough spots.
Tie ribbon to each monogram and attach to gifts or hang on your tree. That’s it!

DIY Holiday Gift Wrap / Music Picks / Hot Chocolate Party & Printables

Last Christmas I had a lot of fun putting together posts for the holidays. Since then my blog has grown quite a bit. If you’re a new readers and haven’t gone back and looked through the archives or stumbled across pins on Pinterest, you probably haven’t seen them. So I thought I would bring back some of my favorite holiday post from last year. They’re oldies but goodies. I have a few new ones planned for this year too but these should hold you over until then.

Wacom Cintiq – Jake just got this for me and I love it! It sure makes my job a lot easier.
Oregon Chai – Lately I keep this in my refrigerator at all times. So nice on a cold afternoon.
The Hunger Games Trilogy – Just finished reading these a few weeks ago. It only took me a few days. I just couldn’t put them down.
International Delight York Peppermint Pattie Creamer – Try this in hot chocolate and I can guarantee you will never be the same.
Cinnamon Scented Pinecones – I get these every year when Fall rolls around. They make our apartment smell so lovely all winter long.
Corene Booties – Just picked up a pair of these on Black Friday. Even though they are technically a slipper the rubber sole allows me to wear them outside too. I just haven’t been able to take them off my feet. They are so warm and cozy.

Last week at this time I hadn’t even started my Christmas shopping, but believe it or not I almost have it all done! If you aren’t quite as on top of it don’t worry. Here is a little help. Take a gander through the gift guide put out by To & From. There are so many beautiful things in it that I haven’t seen before. Now I wish I would have seen the guide before I made up my list for Santa.

We just watched Moonrise Kingdom for the second time the other day. Wes Anderson films aren’t for everybody, but I really enjoy his work. The sets are all so unique and really beautiful to watch. Here is a montage of some overhead shots from some of his films. Just a fun little video for your afternoon.

Christmas is in full swing here at the Bartlett house. The tree is up, Christmas music is playing, and I even baked a batch of Christmas cookies yesterday afternoon.

I’m really loving these Christmas illustrations by Charley Harper. Aren’t they just perfect?

Black Friday Printable: Charlie Brown Christmas

I hope everybody had a successful and enjoyable shopping day today. Jamie and I found lots of great deals online this year from the comfort of our living room.

Last year we designed (and I animated) a graphic of Linus’ Christmas speech from A Charlie Brown Christmas. Since then we’ve had lots of people ask where they could buy the print. It wasn’t something we had originally planned on making available, but since so many people enjoyed it, we decided to make it a free 8×10 printable download. You can print it off for your own home (or for a friend’s) absolutely free and remember all season long the true meaning of Christmas. Enjoy!

Making A List: Christmas Gift Record Printable

There are a few smart people out there that have already gotten all of their Christmas shopping done. Then there are people like me that haven’t really even started. I always have a hard time choosing what to get people so I end up putting it off hoping the perfect gift will fall right in my lap. Once Black Friday hits, that is when I really start to get in present buying mode.

When I’m out shopping and in the midst of the holiday craziness, I sometimes forget who I’ve bought presents for and who I still have left on my list. So I made a handy dandy printable that will solve all those problems. Unfortunately it doesn’t come with a little elf to help pick out the perfect gift.

Have a happy Thanksgiving everybody and don’t forget your stretchy pants!
