Simple Ways To Decorate For Christmas

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Christmas, Decorations, DIY, Holiday, Inspiration 1784 Views

I’m excited this week for three reasons: 1. It’s Thanksgiving, 2. it’s a short work week, and 3. this time next week our apartment will be decked out with Christmas decorations!

On black friday we usually avoid all the crazy crowds and buy our deals from the comfort of our bed. Then the rest of the day is spent listening to Christmas music and setting up the tree. I’m curious to see how Pixel is going to react to all the new things to get into.

In preparation for the festivities, I’ve been trying to find some simple ways to decorate for the season. I’m going to try and make some of them over the next few days so they are ready for this weekend, but then again I do have a four day weekend to fill up!

Tip: Check back on our blog on Black Friday for just the thing to start your Christmas celebrations and decorations.

Thanksgiving Printables for The Sweetest Occasion

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post, Printables Design, For the Taking, Holiday, Printable, Thanksgiving 1262 Views

Remember last month when I designed some Halloween printables for The Sweetest Occasion? Well I’m excited to announce that Cyd and I will be teaming up on a regular basis to bring you more lovely free printables!

Today I have some Thanksgiving labels along with a matching card for you. The labels are multi-functional and can be used as place cards, buffet food labels or even marking leftovers (that is if you have any). You can download them over on The Sweetest Occasion.

Now bring on some turkey and that yummy canned cranberry sauce! Yes, I did say yummy and I really do mean it.

Green Smoothie

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Food, Illustration, Recipe 1575 Views

There is quite the green smoothie fad going around. I admit I was a little skeptical at first; and I even like vegetables. About two weeks ago I came across a recipe for a green smoothie on Iowa Girl Eats. It had only a few (normal) ingredients in it and they were all things I already liked. So I finally caved and decided to see if this glass of green goop was as good as everyone was making it out to be. And what do you know? It was delicious! I’ve had one almost ever morning since. That’s approximately 20 cups of spinach I normally would not have eaten!
So far I’ve only tried this recipe. There are tons of different variations out there, but I like to keep it simple. Especially for breakfast when it can be hard at times to make anything. This way I don’t have to think about it. I’m sure I will be wanting to change it up a bit soon. What are some green smoothie recipes you recommend?

I’ve been trying to perfect my hand lettering. It really is harder than it looks. These are some of the pieces that are inspiring me. I’ve been able to use some of my hand lettering on a custom Christmas card I’ve been designing. You might have seen my sketch if you follow me on instagram

Finders Keepers: A Hip Handmade Holiday

It seems like it’s getting harder and harder to find just the right gift for my friends and family each year. Something handmade could be just the right solution.
A Hip Handmade Holiday has a ton of great ideas. The pdf book even comes with printables and instructional videos. Amazing right? I better get crafting. Can you believe Christmas is only 6 1/2 weeks away?

Winter Wonderland Snow Globes

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Christmas, DIY, Winter 2399 Views

Christmas is everywhere right now. Blogs are posting holiday gift guides and Christmas cards. Pinterest is almost completly consumed with holiday crafts and recipes; and the stores of course set up there decorations while the kids were out trick or treating.

Over the weekend I decided to get in on the festivities and make some snow globe decorations for our mantel. I justified it by saying they are really more of a wintery craft than a Christmas one. But then again the calendar might be calling for colder weather but here in California the weatherman sure isn’t.

You’ve probably seen these little beauties around before. Anthropoligie sold them in their store and everyone all at once started making them themselves. So I jumped on that bandwagon and got right to work. My trees didn’t come with snow already on them so I added my own with a little bit of white craft paint. I also thought a fawn would be a nice touch.

I get to work on a custom Christmas card for a friend today. I guess I better start listening to Chrismas music to get me the spirit of things! Bummer, right? Who am I kidding?

DIY Mid-Century Modern Coffee Table

Jamie Bartlett Tutorial Decor, DIY, Furniture, Home, Tutorial 36148 Views

For a while now I’ve been swooning over all the beautiful mid century furniture that’s been showing up all over the place. Unfortunately it’s all pretty pricey. And we all know what I do when I don’t want to pay for something…I make it myself.
Mid-Century Modern style is so clean and simple which made this coffee table super easy to make. I mean you really can’t get any easier then this!
You will need:
STEP 1: Start by sanding all of your wood pieces.
STEP 2: Using one of your foam brushes, stain all the wood pieces (We did 2 coats on the panel and only one coat on the legs)
STEP 3: Once your stain is completely dry, use your other foam brush to coat the pieces with polyurethane. Once dry add another coat.
STEP 4: Set the board on a flat surface with the bottom facing up. Measure in 6″ from the end and 2.5″ from the side. This is where the middle of the bracket will be positioned. Do this 3 more times on each corner. Then screw on each bracket.
STEP 5: Screw on all the legs and turn the table over.
STEP 6: Sit on your couch and prop your feet up on your new coffee table.

Finders Keepers: DIY Eraser USB

via Instructables
When I was in college my usb drive was one of my prized possessions. I used it constantly to take files to the mac lab or show my projects in class for critique. I would have totally geeked mine out like this. The best part is, it could even be used as an eraser when sketching. This really is the perfect multi-purpose usb drive for any artist.
