Finders Keepers: Leatherbound Classics

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Books, Design, Finders Keepers, Illustration, Typography 1228 Views

Everyone always says don’t judge a book by it’s cover. I’m sorry to say this, but I always judge a book by its cover (in the case of actual books not metaphorical ones). The presentation of something is everything. It gives you a clue as to what is inside. If someone takes the time to do it well there’s a good chance it’s worth your time.
These Leatherbound Classics are spot on. The typography and illustrative work is so lovely it hurts. To Kill a Mockingbird (one of my favorite books of all time) is definitely going on this years birthday wish list.

Photo of the Week: Snow Globe

Jake got me this snow globe for Christmas. I had been wanting one for a while, but couldn’t find any that had something in it that I actually wanted. This one is perfect; I love all things British.

If you haven’t already noticed, I’m kind of a sucker for quotes. I even keep a book where I write down all of my favorites. Once I finish this post, I’m going to add this one to my collection. Illustrator Katie Daisy did a beautiful job bringing this quote to life. Her work is so fun and light hearted. It makes me smile.

Reverse Graffiti

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Design, Graffiti 993 Views

I don’t really have anything against graffiti; in fact I quite like it. There are some really tallented graffiti artists out there that do amazing work. I guess it’s more of the senseless teenage mess that is bothersome.

British based artists from Symbollix do their graffiti a little different. They rely on what already exists in the environment like dirt, moss, and mold for their canvas. I love the idea. Now if only I had a dirt covered wall.

Updated Design

Jake Blog Post Design, Graphic Design 1077 Views

I’m sure by now you have noticed that we updated the look of our blog a little bit over the weekend. We put a lot of thought into how to make our layout as efficient as possible, while still making it something we want to look at. The whole blog is now wider, giving us much more room in the sidebar. The sidebar itself has it’s own containers now. We’ve brightened up the content’s background. Our standard font is now MidoMedium. You are now able to reply to a specific comment. We added a design page (which is still under construction). our post title layout has updated and has a new image. We added a section of our sidebar called regular features so you can easily get to a certain type of regular post.

And that’s just what I thought of off the top of my head. We’re constantly thinking of how to make our blog better. I hope you like our new look. Let us know if you love it or hate it (especially if you’re using a smartphone!), or what you think we’re missing.

Morning Brew: Here Comes the Sun

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Morning Brew, Photography 922 Views

I love this time of year when the sun starts staying out longer. I tend to be more productive and spend more time outdoors. I think I’ll go on a little stroll with Jake tonight. What will you do will your extra hours of sunlight?

Finders Keepers

Now that I have more time to post on our blog, we’ve decided to introduce more regular columns. Today we are starting Finders Keepers, which will feature products that we find particularly interesting and creative. I love finding unique things and I’m so excited to share them with you.

For the first post I couldn’t help but feature two products. Isn’t the glass milk carton fabulous? It would be so fun to use at a tea party along with the hidden animal cups. Don’t you think anything with animals are automatically a must have? I hoped you enjoyed the first Finders Keeps. I would love to hear what you think.

The World At Our Fingertips

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Antiques, Decor, Globes, Home, Maps, Vintage 1298 Views

I’ve alway loved maps. I remember as a kid when our family would go on vacation, my dad would have this huge atlas that had a map of every US state. I would try to find where we were and where we were going. I thought it was so neat that the world was laid out right there on that piece of paper. Sometimes I would stare at maps and imagine what kind of people lived there and what they were doing at that moment.

Lately I’ve been trying to find the perfect globe. I haven’t had any luck so far. The ones I’ve seen have been a little on the pricy side. I also love the old pull down maps. Those would be a perfect piece of wall art to hang anywhere.

You can’t go wrong with a chalk board. Shop Dirtsa will actually do custom State maps. (we like the Michigan one)
