Anniversary Weekend

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Anniversary, California, Decor, Travel 1166 Views

Wow this week is flying by. I guess since we had monday off it feels like we are a day behind. Palm Springs was wonderful. We stayed at the Ace Hotel. They had a huge outdoor pool and hot tub. When we got there on Saturday the hotel was surprisingly packed. We found out it was because there was a wedding going on. So we just explored the Palm Springs area and hung out in our room to escape the crowds.

Sunday, (our anniversary) we took full advantage of the pool and laid out in the sun all afternoon. We even got pool side food service for lunch.

The hotel also had bikes you could check out and use. They even had a tandem bike. So later on that afternoon we took a ride on the tandem through Palm Springs neighborhoods and got to see some really neat desert modern architecture.

To top off the evening we ate at the hotel restaurant, Kings Highway. Jake of course ordered the Lamb and I got the California Sea Bass. They were both delicious!

After dinner we took our picture in the hotel lobby’s old photo booth. The photo booth gave no warning when it was gong to take the picture. As you can see in the first one, we were not ready. But I think that’s what makes it funny.

For dessert we braved our one-year-old wedding cake. The poor cake had been through a lot. We had to ship it to LA because it had been in Jake’s parent’s freezer for the past year. I promise the cake was more beautiful looking a year ago. The cake was edible, but you could tell it was old. Jake and I enjoyed a piece together and threw the rest out. We ate it more for the tradition than anything else.

Before we left Monday afternoon to head back home, we played a round of mini golf, which I’m pleased to tell you, Jake and I tied. Then we walked around downtown and went in a few shops. One shop sold fudge so we went in and bought a bit, since last year on our honeymoon we got fudge from Mackinaw Island. I can proudly report Mackinaw’s is better. I think we unintentionally made it an anniversary tradition to ride a tandem bike and eat fudge. Not necessarily at the same time though.

Morning Brew: Summer?

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Design, Food, Graphic Design, Morning Brew, Poster 994 Views

These prints by C.S Neal are so fun. I wanted to post them because they remind me of summer. I am completely and utterly ready for summer. When we left Palm Springs this weekend it was in the 80’s, but when we got back home to LA it was all clouded over and barely over 60 degrees. I wish at least the weather would make up its mind and just stay consistent for a while.

What a Year it has Been

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Anniversary, Design, Graphic Design, Michigan, Photography, Wedding 1165 Views

Wow I can’t believe it has been a year since Jake and I were married. I thought that day would never come. Now it has come and gone. May, 15 2010 in Traverse City, MI was our day. I thought since we’ve never really posted any pictures from our wedding, it would be nice to reminisce a little. Jake and I had so much fun planning our wedding and making (literally) everything the way we wanted it. It was a beautiful day.
After the ceremony the Bridal party headed downtown to get pictures taken. Jake and I had made mustaches and lips on sticks to use as props. Everyone had fun with those. With the help of our friends and family, we made all the decorations and centerpieces for the reception. Instead of cake, we decided to have cupcakes decorated with typographic Js, &s and B circles. My Brother-in-Law built us a custom stand and he even surprised us by putting pears on it. Jake of course had mustaches on his cupcakes. We had good food, good cake, and good company. Everyone worked really hard to make our day perfect (especially our moms). I can’t thank everybody enough. We had so much fun.

Jake and I are going on a little road trip this weekend for our one year wedding anniversary. We are spending a long weekend in Palm Springs. We’ve never been there before, so if you know of anything that we should make sure to do let us know. As of right now I think the pool is our main priority. The weather is supposed to be beautiful. I’m so excited to have a long weekend relaxing with Jake.  Have a wonderful weekend and we’ll be back Tuesday!

Photo of the Week: Family History

My grandpa looks so handsome in this picture.

 My Grandma is so beautiful.

I have the best grandparents in the world. They’ve taught me a lot growing up. I have so many lovely memories spent playing at their house, going on weekly shopping trips, and being loved and cared for by them. I love them more than anything.
I found these pictures amongst rolls and rolls of old film my Grandmother had given me. I cherish everyone of those pictures, but these three I especially love. They are of my Grandpa and Grandma. They look so young and happy. It’s a time of their life I never knew, but now I can catch a tiny glimpse of their history through these pictures.

I love these pictures so much I just had to frame them. They’re priceless to me.

The Bartlett Press: Unbridled Sound Business Cards

Jake Blog Post Business Card, Design, Graphic Design, Letterpress, Printmaking 1700 Views

We have finally printed our first order of letterpress business cards. A friend of mine at work has wanted us to make him business cards since before we even had our letterpress. It was a good project to get under our belts; we had fun and we learned a lot in the process.

Both sides of the card use black ink, so we did both of those passes first.

Then we cleaned and re-inked the press with blue ink for the logo.

We printed the cards on Crane’s Lettra 200lb 100% cotton paper. It worked great with the photopolymer plates from Boxcar Press and gave a deep impression.

We are very happy with the way the cards turned out, especially since it’s our first time doing front and back and multiple colors on one design.

Morning Brew: Letters

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Etsy, Morning Brew, Photography 951 Views

Who doesn’t love receiving a letter in the mail? While I was in college my friends and I made it a habit to send each other little notes through our campus mail. The notes were alway thoughtful and encouraging. I miss them. Today I’m going to write a note to someone and send it off in the mail. You should try it too. You never know, you could make someone’s day!
