I don’t know if I mentioned it, but Jake and I are planing on moving in the next few months. We want to be a little closer to our friends Jake & Erika who are getting married in July! We aren’t moving too far, but let’s face it, 3 miles in LA can take over 30 minutes to drive sometimes. Because of this I have kind of put a halt on doing any of the bigger DIY projects. We don’t know what kind of place we will be living and if the stuff we make will even work in the new place. Yes, it’s a lame excuse. I just feel like I’m done making this apartment our home and anymore time decorating it is a waste. That hasn’t kept me from hoarding DIY inspiration though! Since I’m probably not going to make this stuff until we move, I thought I could at least show you what projects I’ve been swooning over lately. Who knows, maybe you’ll want to make a thing or two.
Hand Lettering
If there was one thing I could be better at, I would want it to be hand lettering. It’s so beautiful and organic. I think that’s part of my problem though. When I try drawing my own type, I tend to only see its faults, when in reality it’s the slight inconsistencies that make it beautiful.

Kony 2012
Sorry this post is coming so late in the day. I had some stuff I had to take care of for work this morning.
Today I want to share something with you that is really important to me. You might have seen it on the news or posted around the internet this past week. It’s the Kony 2012 film by Invisible Children. Way back when I was a freshman in College (ok not wayyyy back, but a few years ago) Invisible Children came and spoke to our school about the war in Uganda; a war that has been going on since before I was born. Their first film was very moving and very effective to start the process of ending the war. However the rebel leader Joseph Kony is still out there abducting innocent children and forcing them to be soldiers. Through their work, Invisible Children have made the Ugandan child visible to the world, but Joseph Kony is a name still unknown to many. The goal of this project (Kony 2012) is to make Joseph Kony famous. Not in a good way, but as a way to raise awareness about who he is and the atrocities he is committing. It’s time this war was put to an end. So watch the video, become aware and share it with a friend.

Pantone Tarts
Yesterday was all about CMYK. Let’s switch it up and do Pantone today. French Food designer, Emilie de Griottes put together these dessert tarts that resemble Pantone color swatches. It’s color you can eat right up!
My favorite Pantone color is Pantone 2738C. I could see that as some kind of blueberry lemon tart. Do you have a favorite Pantone color? It’s ok, let’s be a little nerdy together.
CMYK Wedding
The key to any great party is a good theme. I would say Rebekah and David have the theme of all themes. What could be better than a CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) wedding? It really is perfect for any design couple who wants to show their inner art nerd. They applied the theme in such fun and clever ways too!
The Story Behind Keeping Calm
Yesterday I found a great video explaining the history of one of my favorite WWII propaganda posters. I could go into more detail about it, but the video tells you all you need to know!
Until yesterday, I had no idea the poster was never displayed until 2000. I love learning about the story of art that has inspired me. I’ve been a fan of the poster ever since I discovered it during college. I bought this shirt parodying the design, and in my college printmaking class I even made a parody of my own (which is now available for purchase as a letterpress print here). If you go to the bookstore’s website, you can even download an app to customize your own version of the poster.
Quill & Fox: Easter Cards
Quill & Fox never disappoints. Their Easter line is as cute as can be. They always use the best color combinations too! I’m not sure who I would send an easter card or invitation to, but I sure want to buy one even if it’s just to hang above my desk for inspiration.
Confessions of a Designer
Designer, Anneke Short took the words right out of my mouth. Her Confessions of a Designer poster series consist of quotes I think all designers experience or think about at some point in their career. It’s kind of like a right of passage. Although I do think the 8 year old girl is a little too old to still be using Comic Sans. You’ve got to correct poor behavior while they’re young, right?
