Invitation Inspiration

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Graphic Design, Invitation, Letterpress, Party 2585 Views

I love it when people come to me to design party invitations. To me it’s the most important part of a party (I could be a little bias). Invitations feel very personal to me so I’m privileged to be a part of that process. I’m still in the beginning stages of the invitations I’m currently working on, but I can already tell they’re going to be fun to do!

Here are a few invitations I’ve been loving lately. I feel inspired already!

Work Happy With Poppin.

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Decor, Office, Organization 3960 Views

Over the weekend Jake and I rearranged our office. We decided to move some things around and organize a little. Poppin sent us some wonderful things to help our desk stay neat and tidy!
When we opened the box of goodies from Poppin, there was a lot of oohing and ahhing going on. Their stuff is so cool! I was especially excited about the scissors. I have been in desperate need of a new pair for a very long time. The ones I had could barely cut a piece of string. Yeah I know, that’s pretty pathetic. These ones cut perfectly and did I mention they look amazing too?
I love their packaging! Just simple nice white boxes with the item’s silhouette on the outside. Some of the items also had witty little names and phrases on the boxes. Like the indispensable tape dispenser and the get-it-together stackable inboxes
My mom and sister couldn’t keep their hands off these pens. So far five are MIA.
The little pink eraser has stolen my heart. Isn’t it the cutest?
Thanks for all the goodies Poppin!

DIY: Hot Dog Garland

Jamie Bartlett Tutorial DIY, For the Taking, Party, summer, Tutorial 3612 Views

There are still a few more weekends of BBQ season left and if you’re like us you grill as often as you can. I’ve already had my fair share of hot dogs for the summer but that’s not going to stop me from having a few more. If you’re feeling extra festive the next time you have friends over for a cookout, make this hot dog garland and hang it on the table with the codenmets. We used it for Pixel’s hot dog birthday party earlier this summer and all the guests loved it.

Still Life by Arnout van Albada

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Art, painting 1938 Views

I have to admit I was never a big fan of still life paintings while studying art throughout highschool and college . Lately though, they’ve been growing on me. These ones by Netherlands based artist Arnout van Albada are quite amazing. How about a jello mold instead of a fruit basket?

Penny Gaff, by Floor Plan – Lyric Video

Jake Blog Post Animation, Lyric Video, Motion Graphics, Music, Personal Project, Video 1315 Views

Today I am very excited to be able to share with you a project I spent the last few months working on. My good friends from the band Floor Plan were gracious enough to allow me to create a lyric video for one of their new songs. I was given complete creative freedom, and they didn’t want to see or know anything about it until it was finished. They even assured me that they wouldn’t have any revisions. Below is the result — enjoy!

My goal was to imitate as many different design styles as closely as possible. Jamie was a huge help through the creative process, especially coming up with styles to create. Working on a project with no limitations is extremely freeing, but also dangerous. I could do whatever I wanted, so I spent a lot more time than I usually do designing. In the end, it turned out exactly as I was hoping; and the guys from Floor Plan loved it. I had so much fun working on it that I’ve already begun on my next personal project. Gotta keep those creative juices flowing!

In Motion: End Scene

Jake Blog Post Animation, In Motion, music video, Video 1228 Views

Every once in a while I find something online that is mind-blowingly inspiring to me. This animated music video from Steffen Bygebjerg is one of those things. At first glance it might not seem like much, but after reading Steffen’s description of how it was made, I was dumbfounded. After animating the entire video in after effects, Steffen printed out every single frame on a photocopier, and then scanned every single one of the frames back in by hand. After assembling them, this is what he ended up with.

During my first watch through of this video I was trying the whole time to figure out how to recreate the effect myself. It wasn’t until I read the description that I realized that the reason everything looked so organic and the texture was so raw was because of his painstakingly tedious technique. I can only hope to one day be so dedicated to a project that I’m willing to work that hard for a project.

Zachary Smith Typography

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Artist, Design, Photography, Typography 2008 Views

Sorry I’ve been a little MIA this week. My family is coming into town so I’m trying to get all my work done. That way I can take some time off while they’re here. That’s a good excuse right?

Which reminds me — posts here on the blog might be a little sporadic next week as well. I can however promise that today’s post is a good one.

Check out Zachary Smith’s killer typography! Man this is just so good. It’s stuff like this that makes me want to grab my moleskin and get to work.

Do yourself a favor and follow him on instagram too. He post lots of goodies on there.
