Decorate Your Desktop: 04

Growing up my mom always had a big box of Pop Ice in our freezer (I’m told out here in California they refer to them as Otter Pops). I ate those things like they were going out of style. Blue of couse was my favorite. Why did they even bother making the green? That and Kool-aid was the story of my summers as a kid. Did you ever save up those points on the back of the Kool-aid packs to buy their cool prizes? That was the best thing ever.
Anyway back to popsicles. Treat yo self to a popsicle or two or three. You deserve it.

The Art of the Movie Title

Jake Blog Post Graphic Design, Movies, Typography 1968 Views

Right now I’m working on an animated lyric video for my friend’s band, Floorplan. It’s one of the most fun projects I’ve been able to work on, but man — it’s taking a lot of time to design. While scouring the internet for inspiration, I stumbled across The Movie Title Stills Collection by web and graphic designer Christian Annyas. This little gem of a website is a collection of still frames of titles and opening credits from movies spanning the entire history of cinema.

Not only does Christian collect high quality stills, but he also identifies many of the typefaces used! That’s an extremely helpful addition when you’re trying to recreate a specific look as closely as possible.

Christian has even put together a section dedicated to Saul Bass’ title sequences; as well as a series of “The End” cards from Warner Bros. and Metro Goldwyn Mayer. And if you ever wanted to see all of Wes Anderson’s titles compiled into one post, check that out too!

Our Weekend

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Family, Holiday, Pixel, Weekend 1478 Views

I hope everybody had a wonderful weekend. It’s pretty hard not to when the sun is shining and you have time to just relax with your family. That’s what weekends at the Bartlett’s are all about. We spent a lot of time at the dog park with Pixel making new friends and then coming home and spending the afternoon on the couch reading and watching lots of Prison Break. You know those tv shows that just pull you in and are so crazy you just have to know what’s going to happen next? Prison Break is definitely one of those. Although I can’t say I’m too happy about how season 3 is going. Sometimes I wish writers would just write happy endings. It’s not that hard. Disney does it all the time.
When we were able to press pause for a bit we ventured out and found this new park. It’s a small park that’s kind of hidden. We drive by it all the time on the highway and have always wondered how you get to it. So we did a little exploring and found it. We spent the morning laying in the grass and just relaxing. And then of course we went home and watched more Prison Break.

Typographic Smoothicles

If you been on Pinterest or most any blog for that matter you know that popsicles are all the rage this summer, but have you ever heard of smoothicles? Basically it’s just a frozen smoothie. I came across the site Smoothicles. They have more health conscious smoothie/popsicle recipes that provide natural energy. They sound delicious, but the real reason I wanted to share this with you today was because of the recipe videos they made. They did some pretty yummy animated typography over top of their already beautifully shot videos. Check it out!

Beat the Heat

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Style, summer, Weekend 1072 Views

This weekend we are in for a hot one. It supposed to be in the 90’s everyday until the middle of next week! I hate wasting weekends doing nothing so instead of sitting inside waiting for it to cool down I think I will grab a cute hat, a cool treat and a good read. Whether or not I will be inside or outside is still yet to be determined. I’m sure there will be a few or more episodes of Prison Break somewhere in there too. Most likely more rather than a few.

Plume & Post Branding

Remember back in February when I showed you this moodboard I was working on for re-branding a client? Well It’s done! Ok, ok it’s been done for a while. I don’t know why it has taken me this long to show you.
This project was for Plume & Post, an inbound marketing company that works with small businesses to create content for their audiences. They are pros at what they do and were looking for a new brand that displayed exactly who they are: creative, refined, and just overall awesome.
I loved — LOVED — working on this project. The team at Plume & Post were amazing to work with from beginning to end. Let’s hope they don’t need to be re-branded anytime soon but if they do I would love to do it all over again.

Goodbye Google Reader

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Blog 1660 Views

I’m sure most of you have already heard but just in case a few of you haven’t, Google Reader is shutting down as of July 1st. I think it’s silly and don’t really understand why but it is what it is and we must move on.

Do you know what reader you’re going to switch to? I’ve mentioned it before but I’ve heard Bloglovin’, Feedly, and Pulse are all good options. Right now I’m currently trying out both Bloglovin’ and Feedly. I haven’t really decided what I like best. I thought I would just use Feedly but then everyone seemed to be jumping on the Bloglovin’ bandwagon so I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing out on anything. They are all really easy to import your blogs from Google Reader. So hurry before it’s too late and import your blogs so you don’t lose them. I would love to hear what you are using and what you like best about it.
