Let’s Set Some Goals

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Business, Inspiration 1847 Views

Earlier this week I discovered Designed to Sell. It’s an unconventional guide to creative freedom by the talented duo over at These Are Things. They recognized the need for a manual like this after not having any resources for themselves while they were starting up their business. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I’ve been feeling a little discouraged and lost lately, but now I’m feeling inspired. I plan to put this guide to good use. If you need me I’ll be making long lists and setting big goals today.

Our Weekend in San Diego

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post California, Holiday, San Diego, Vacation 1880 Views

After living in Southern California for four years we finally made our way to San Diego over Memorial Day weekend, and you can bet we’ll be going back. The city itself had so much to see and do. Since we took Pixel with us we stuck to the great outdoors for the majority of the trip. But we didn’t mind because the weather there was beautiful (but when is it not?).
Our first stop was Balboa Park. This place was gorgeous (and huge)! We explored all the Gardens, grabbed hot dogs from one of the food stands, and spent the afternoon relaxing in the grass. I think if I lived here I would visit this place every weekend.
We stayed in Little Italy at a small hotel called Urban Boutique Hotel. It was a great little place. The staff were super friendly and they even greeted Pixel with a milkbone when we arrived. Right down the street from where we stayed was a fire house museum. It was closed, but we still had to take a picture of Pixel out front.
The rest of the evening was spent walking through Little Italy, enjoying a pizza from Filippi’s, and cannolis from a bakery next door. I loved the quaintness of Little Italy and all the details they had that really made this place a gem.

This is the face of a pup that got the first bite of our cannoli. He’s a quick one.

The next day we crossed the bridge and went over to Coronado Island. Pixel had never been to a beach where he was allowed off-leash. Unfortunately, LA doesn’t have an off-leash dog beach so we wanted to take advantage of being near one while we were there. As soon as Pixel’s paws touched the sand, he was the happiest pup I have ever seen. He had the time of his life running in and out of the water, digging in the sand and playing with EVERY dog.

Once he was good and tired, we made our way back to the car, grabbed a California Burrito on our way out of town and headed home. Pixel slept the entire drive. That’s when you know it was a good weekend. Thanks San Diego for such a perfect weekend and thanks to all our San Diego friends for suggesting all these amazing places. We should have you plan our trips more often.

We’ve lived in LA for over 4 years now and still have yet to really visit San Diego. What?! Well that’s about to change. We booked a beautiful hotel, packed our bags, grabbed our sunnies and we’re headed down (Pixel included) to celebrate our anniversary. We have a few things on our list to check out, but If you are from the area or have visited before, we would love to hear your must see places. See you soon San Diego. We’re coming for you!

I came across the work of Katharine Morling this morning and I can’t get enough of these ceramics that look like 3 dimensional line drawings. The details are incredible. And those cameras! They’re so fabulous! Check out more of her work here.

Better Together

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Anniversary, Birthday, Dalmatian, Family, Handlettering, Photography, Pixel 1471 Views

I probably say this every year but I can’t believe it’s already been four years since I married my Jake. My life is forever better because of him and I am beyond honored and blessed to call him mine. Each year is better than the last.

And if that wasn’t enough to celebrate, today is also our fur baby’s second birthday. As soon as we saw our little Pix we knew he would be the perfect addition to our family and he hasn’t let us down. He is always there to greet us with a smile (literally). I couldn’t be more thankful for my little family. It’s doesn’t get much better than this.

Caught on Film with Haley Sheffield

The cyber world is pretty amazing; especially for creatives. There are so many awesome talented people sharing what they do all around the internet. It’s inspiring to follow along and sometimes if you’re lucky you get to meet them in person, and even be a part of their work.

Last fall Haley Sheffield came out to LA. We had “met” through each other’s blogs and chatted back and forth a few times. So when I found out she was headed this way, it was a no brainer that we needed to grab some coffee and have a good chat. But before we got our morning coffee fix, Haley captured some amazing shots of us just as the sun was starting to wake up. It was such a fun experience getting to see her work. She is such an inspiration. This girl’s got some crazy talent. And did I mention that she is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met? I’m not-so-secretly hoping that someday California will win her heart so we can hang out all the time.

You can check out more pictures from our shoot over on Haley’s blog and while you’re there be sure to check out some of her other work like this session she did of our besties Jake and Erika. I also love this this fun Mother’s Day Breakfast in Bed shoot she just did with Pottery Barn. I can promise this won’t be the last time you’ll be see the Photography of Haley Sheffield around the web. Thanks Haley! These are such a treasure and just in time for our four year wedding anniversary next week!

The Wild Adventures of Bebop Fuzz

Jake Blog Post Animation 1144 Views

Today I want to share a project my brother Aaron is working on. Watch the video to get an idea of what the project is, and then go check out the Kickstarter project for all the details. I love the way that they’re shooting as much of it practically as possible, and then animating the face after the fact. It gives the whole project such a cool look and feel. I’m excited to see their finished product!
