Jake Blog Post Competition, Video 1025 Views

As you may already know, a video competition has been going on at my office all year. Any employee can make any type of video and upload it to youtube. The video with the most views by the end of the year wins an all expenses paid trip to New York City for two. I’ve already made an animation that is currently less than 250 views behind first place. You can watch that here.

Yesterday morning everyone with a subscription to Netflix received an email from the CEO. He explained that the company would be splitting into two separate companies. The online streaming content would remain under the name Netflix, and the mailed DVDs would now be called Qwikster. They will exist as two separate websites operating independently. This split isn’t getting a lot of positive renforcement. About 45 minutes after reading through that email, I was struck with an idea for a new video to make for my work’s competition.

I can’t take credit for the original concept of my video. Hundreds of other versions of this clip exist on youtube already. But with the help of my friends and family, I was able to write a unique and funny set of subtitles for this clip. I hope you enjoy it.

Morning Brew: Morning Brew

It’s been very gloomy the last few mornings; and particularly this morning. When there’s not much sunlight shining when you first wake up, I’ve just got to have a hot cup of coffee to encourage me to start my day. Making our morning coffee is definitely my full responsibility in our home. Sometimes Jamie doesn’t even hear the alarm, or falls asleep before I get back from the kitchen. So far I have a perfect record of always getting the coffee. It keeps me honest.

New Car

Jake Blog Post Adventure, Weekend 1149 Views

This past weekend Jamie and I went out to Norco, CA to look at a Toyota Prius. Not too long after getting married, we decided this was the car we wanted to save for. We loved our Jeep, and couldn’t have gotten a lot of the furniture that we have now without it. But At 10 mpg, it was pretty clear that a new car would be a wise decision. Buying a car and trading in our Jeep was a very strange experience. I still don’t feel like I own the vehicle. But it sure is a smooth ride.

Farewell Jeep, you served your family well. Soon we will be taking a nice day trip up the coast with the sunroof open and a picnic ready for the beach.

Aren’t these brilliant? I can’t help but wonder why hasn’t anyone thought of this before. It seems so obviously perfect. These biodegradable lids are perfect for repurposing old tin cans into useful objects. I never knew a tin can could look so good.

Wine Country

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Adventure, California, Photography, Travel, Weekend 985 Views

This past weekend our good friends Jonny and Emily invited us to go up to wine country for a relaxing day of picnicking and wine tasting. If you know anything about Jake and I, we are far from being any kind of wine connoisseurs. In fact Jake doesn’t even really like alcohol, but we were more than happy to come along and enjoy the day trip with friends. We’ve never been to wine country, and what better way to spend a beautiful Sunday then to relax in the beautiful outdoors with friends?

The drive was up was beautiful. It was so refreshing getting out of the crowded, busy city and enjoying nature. We had a fabulous time playing card games, taking photos, and having our picnic lunch. It was the perfect way to unwind before the work week started again.

Feels Like Fall

Yesterday it felt like Fall; a cool breeze, a few leaves falling from the trees, and the sun setting slightly sooner. It was perfect.

Love Your Dog

Cody created this piece for a traveling exhibition and poster campaign. Artists around the country were asked to create works that raise awareness of social and political issues. I love the minimalist approach. This would be a cute way of doing custom dog portraits.

Born to Be Wild

I love baby animals; they are so cute. Elephants are my favorite. For a while now I’ve been saving pictures of elephants. The ones posted above are some of my favorites. Elephants are really amazing creatures and oh so cute. So when Jake suggested we go see Born to Be Wild, a documentary about orphaned orangutans and elephants and the extraordinary people who rescue and raise them, I was ecstatic. It was probably the most excited we’ve been about a movie in a long time.

It was showing in IMAX 3D not far from us. I’m really not the biggest fan of 3D, but wow this was amazing! It was by far the best 3D experience we’ve had. The documentary was so good. The film was only 40 minutes long and I could have sat there for another 40 just watching the beautiful cinematography and cute little orangoutangs and elephants. If it is showing near you I would suggested going to see it, but if you can’t, you should at least watch the trailer I posted.

Labor Day Weekend.

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Design, Poster 1041 Views

Welcome back from the long holiday weekend everybody! Did you do anything fun? I hope it was relaxing and enjoyable for all of you. It sure was for Jake and I. Most of the weekend we stayed home and enjoyed just being together. We watched a few movies, ate at In-N-Out ( it was long overdue) and even managed to have some fun printing on our letterpress. On Monday morning Jake woke me up with fresh coffee and breakfast in bed. How fabulous and sweet is that? Thankfully he doesn’t make me sleep in the kitchen.

I also made a stop at the craft store and picked up some yearn for all those projects I decided I wanted to do. They didn’t have the size needle I needed so I ended up having to order one online. But once I get that I can start kniting my way to cooler weather!
