His & Hers: Polaroids

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post His and Hers, Photography 1568 Views

I was going through some of our Printics we had printed and I noticed that Jake and I had taken very similar pictures. It seems we can’t  resist snapping a selfie with our pup when he is peeking over our shoulder.

In Motion: WWF Parallax Sequence

Jake Blog Post After Effects, Animation, In Motion, Video 2011 Views

This video from Make Productions is unbelievable because it is made up entirely of still photos. The team painstakingly cut out all of the elements of the photos in photoshop, took them into after effects, and animated them to look like they were slow-motion video. I’ve messed around with this style of animation before, and my jaw dropped when I saw how well they executed this video. Be sure to check out the video below for an interview/tutorial from one of the artists from Make Productions to see exactly how they achieved such an amazing effect.

Whew I am so glad it’s Friday. Most of this week we were without internet and because of that I didn’t get as much done as I had planned too. As you can see I only posted one other time this week. It’s surprising how much having limited access to the world wide web can slow you down. Especially when you have loads of emails to answer and projects to send that are all waiting for you the moment the signal is back up. It was kind of a mad house in my head this week. We managed to get through it though and let me just say that some little internet provider is now on my naughty list. I’m just glad it’s the weekend and I can’t wait to start fresh next week.

And one more thing… Don’t forget to signup for our Printic giveaway! You won’t want to miss out on your chance to win the cutest little Polaroids.

Printic Giveaway

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Giveaway, Photography, Printic 7592 Views

It’s a very happy Monday for us Bartletts. We woke up to an email that made our month and maybe even our entire year. It’s not for sure yet but if it happens I promise I will tell you. That along with a few other things are happening to make this Monday a lot more pleasant as far as Mondays go. And to top it all off we are doing a giveaway!!!
A few weeks ago Printic emailed me asking if I wanted to try out their app. I hadn’t heard of Printic before so I looked them up and was pleasantly surprised when I was greeted by their lovely logo and beautiful branding. Printic is an app that allows you to print and share photos in a cute Polaroid format right from your smart phone! Their email couldn’t have come at a better time. For months now I have been saying how I want to be better about printing our photos. Printic is easy, affordable, and I love that you can ship them straight to family and friends. I plan on sending a few to our nieces and nephews. We don’t get to see them that often, so I think it would be fun for them to have a few prints of our time together until the next time we can make more fun memories with them. And one of my favorite things about Printic is the perfect little orange envelope or box the prints come packaged in. It’s some serious mail candy.

Jake and I (and Pixel) loved looking through our box of Printics. We framed a few and hung them up in our apartment. It was a super easy project. We just used some washi tape and stuck them to some paper that we then framed. Easy peasy and pretty cute if you ask me. The rest of the prints are going to decorate our office and add some inspiration to our space.

And because Printic is so awesome they are giving away 50 prints that will come packaged in their little orange box! So awesome right?! Head on over and like their facebook page. Then come back here and comment on this post to enter. You have until noon PST time this coming Sunday January 19th to enter. The winner will be randomly chosen and announced next Monday so be sure to come back and check to see if you won! Good luck everyone.

UPDATE: The winner is DJ! Wahooo! I will be emailing you shortly.

Finders Keepers: ROK Espresso Machine

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Coffee, Finders Keepers 2052 Views

Just the other day I was scrolling through my instagram feed and came across a photo Melissa from The Faux Martha had posted. All her pictures are beautiful by the way and you should definitely follow her if you’re on instagram. Anyway this time the photo she snapped was of her yummy latte she had just made with her new ROK espresso machine. The machine looked nothing like any espresso machine I had ever seen so I quickly looked it up to find out more about it. Just like I expected, it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. It’s three of my favorite things all wrapped up into one: espresso, beautiful design and, it’s made in London (London always as a special in my heart). This thing looks too good to be true. I might just have to clear some space on my kitchen counter for this baby.

And since we’re talking about London, Have you watched Sherlock yet? The third season just started up and we are obsessed. When the next episode airs, we might just have to try pairing it with this cocktail that was named after the show – The Sherlock & Watson. We tend to do things like that when we watch our favorite shows. For instance Parks & Recreation night is waffle night.

For some reason this year seems extra promising. Maybe because we are already being so intentional about things. Or maybe because everything feels so new when you leave home for a bit and come back to the sun. I’m not really sure, but I’m loving starting fresh and setting goals for this year.
Jake and I set a few goals for 2014. We would like to:
Explore new spots in LA/California
Go paddleboarding
Expand our paper goods line
Venture into wholesale
Keep learning new things (Skillshare will probably be a big part of that)
Did you set any goals for this year? I would love to hear them!

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Christmas, Holiday, Traverse City, Winter 1841 Views

It’s pretty easy to see why the holiday season is called the most wonderful time of the year. We just spent the last two weeks on vacation and let me tell you it was fabulous. One week in Traverse City, Michigan visiting family and one week at home being productive and enjoying some time as just the three of us.

Our first week in Michigan is what you always want your Christmas to be. It was filled with cookie decorating, chats around the fireplace with family, plenty of play time with the nieces and nephews and of course lots and LOTS of snow.
If you have ever been to Traverse City, you know that they have such a fabulous down town area right on the bay. Every time we visit we make sure to head down there even if its just to walk around and window shop. There is just something about the atmosphere down there that is so inviting. This time
when we went it started snowing. They were the most beautiful fluffy flakes I have ever seen.
There was tons of ice around the bay. I have only really ever seen Traverse City during the colder months so it’s hard to imagine the bay anything but freezing cold. We hope to visit during the summer this year and go paddle boarding on the bay so I hope the water looks more inviting than this in July.
Another great thing Traverse City has is their amazing State Theatre. I think we have seen a movie there just about every time we’ve visited. This time we saw Saving Mr. Banks (which is great). The lobby of the theatre is really small so you have to wait outside until the previous showing gets out. I swear these people thought we were in California or something. The cold didn’t seem to phase anybody else while I was freezing.
Thankfully they have plenty of good coffee shops to grab a warm drink and a bite to eat. We tried out Brew. It seemed to be a pretty hip and happenin’ place, but we managed to get a table and enjoy a good cup of joe.
On one of our last nights we headed outside to look at the stars. We don’t often get to see too many since there is quite a bit of light pollution on LA. So we took advantage of being out of the city and snapped a few pictures of the stars.
Then we packed up our things, said our good-byes, and headed back to LA. But I made sure to grab a Chicago Dog during our layover in Chicago.

Once we got home we hit 2014 hard with lots of decluttering, organizing, cleaning, and Jake even spent some time (ok and lot of time) coding and updating his professional website and our blog (more on that later). Of course there were a few trips to the dog park, visits to yummy restaurants and some time with friends. We’re not THAT boring. But let me tell you it sure does feel good to start the new year refreshed and organized. It makes me feel like I can accomplish anything in 2014. And that’s exactly what we plan to do.

Merry Christmas

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Christmas, Hand Lettering, Holiday, Typography 10184 Views

We made it to Traverse City yesterday and were greeted with piles of snow and freezing weather. Now it really feels like Christmas. We will be signing off for a bit while we spend time building snowmen and drinking hot chocolate in front of the fire with our family. Our nieces and nephews are begging us to come and play so we better go, but we just wanted to pop in and wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
xoxo,
Jake, Jamie, and Pixel
