Garden Plans

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post garden 1263 Views

Over the weekend we dug up most of our garden. Everything in it was planted before we moved in. I really had no desire to take on another project, but there were two huge bushes taking over our entire patio area and making Jake’s allergies go crazy; so they had to go. It already looks so much better back there but now it’s time to add a few more plants back in. Our plan is to fill it in with easy to care for plants such as cactus and succulents. I love these plants. There are so many different colors, textures, and shapes. Ikea has some cute inexpensive plants and pots. I think that will be our first stop. I can’t wait to pick out some for the garden area to pot and plant!

Today I was struggling with what to post. I didn’t really feeling like I had anything worth sharing or saying. Then I found these animal portraits by Beat Up Creations. Let’s face it. These don’t need words. Problem soved.

Finders Keepers: Domino Magazine

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Decor, Finders Keepers, Home, Magazine 1779 Views

Domino Magazine just released their spring issue all about small spaces! I couldn’t be more excited about this one. Living in a small apartment has its challenges, but that’s kind of what I like about it. It forces you to be creative on how you decorate, keeps the amount of stuff you buy in check, and makes your space feel cozy. I love it and I would love to see what Domino has to say about it. Don’t you think this issue would go perfect with my Saturday morning coffee?

Here are a few more finds from this week:

Thanks to this you’ll never be bored again.
The fanciest paws you’ll ever see.
The Perfect weekend project.
This recipe looks fresh and yummy.

Our Family Photo Session with Steph

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Family, Los Angeles, Photography, Pixel 1381 Views

We don’t often post pictures of ourselves here on the blog. Mostly because  we tend to be the ones behind the camera documenting whatever is going on. I guess I should start handing off the camera more.
A few weeks ago we asked our friend Stephanie (who is a photographer here in the LA area) to take a few shots of our little family. Every time I see Steph’s work on her blog my jaw just drops. I swear she’s got some magic button on that camera of hers. Some of my favorite work of hers is the lifestyle sessions. She does such an amazing job capturing families just how they are: silly, beautiful, and fun.
Our session was no exception. She did an incredible job and we had so much fun in the process. Thanks Steph for capturing such beautiful photos for us! We love them all!
I love how Pix has his tongue out in all of them. He was super excited to be there and be the center of attention. I’ve already booked Steph for my future pregnancy photos, baby photos, and a lifetime supply of lifestyle sessions. If you’re in the LA area you should definitely look her up when those family photos need updating.

Pantone Colors for Spring

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Color, Design, Pantone 1406 Views

I’m a little late getting started this morning because Pixel wanted to cuddle and who can say no to that?
Can you believe today is the first day of Spring? Warm weather, sunny picnics, and outdoor play days our on their way.
Pantone picked some lovely colors for this spring’s fashion trend. There are lots of colorful brights and pretty neutrals that go together so perfectly. These colors aren’t only popular in fashion but I’ve been spotting them in some of my favorite designs too.

In Motion: New Mickey Mouse Shorts

Jake Blog Post Animation, Design, In Motion, Video 1907 Views

Today I discovered that Disney is making 19 brand new animated Mickey Mouse shorts! The whole series is being produced and directed by Paul Rudish, who made Dexter’s Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls. You can definitely see his influence in the art direction. I can’t embed the video, so you’ll have to go to Disney’s website to watch the video. Go check it out!

It makes me so happy to see characters I grew up loving making a comeback in such a beautiful and well-written way. I can’t wait to see the rest of them! You can read more about the series of shorts right here.

Beach Day in Malibu

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Beach, Photography, Weekend 1496 Views

This weekend we packed up our friends, picnic blankets, fancy cheese (along with other yummy snacks), and beach games and headed to Malibu for a lovely afternoon at the beach.

It was a little overcast and chilly but we made the best of it. We had lots of laughs and silly conversations while just enjoying quality time with some of the people we love most.
We even made a video with the new Vine app. Have you heard of it? It’s basically Instagram for videos. It’s a lot of fun to play with. So far I haven’t found very many people I know who use it. If you have it you can see our beach video on our account (A Pair of Pears).

Finders Keepers: DIY Planters

Jamie Bartlett Blog Post Decor, DIY, Finders Keepers, Home, Plants 1615 Views

Spring has really been showing it’s face here in Southern California this past week and we’ve been loving every minute of it! We’ve taken an evening walk to get frozen yogurt, enjoyed a meal or two on our patio, and every morning when the warm sun comes around we open up all the windows to let in some fresh air.

All the warm weather has made me think about getting some more plants for our apartment. Right now we only have two little succulents.

Each plant needs a cute pot to sit in. These are a few of my favorite diy planters finds. Maybe this Sunday we can take a stroll down to the farmer’s market and pick up a few more succulents.

Pixel is growing up to be quite a handsome pup. He started his intermediate training class two weeks ago and is quickly learning to heel when we go on walks. Sorry squirrels, you’ll have to play with the next pup that comes by.
