We’ve had so much going on this week and so much to post about, I almost forgot to tell you about our movie in the park. Most everybody there were parents with their little kids. I noticed a few of the kids came dressed in there pajamas; it was so cute! We got there two hours before the movie started to claim our spot in the grass. It was a good thing we did because it got packed pretty quickly. Here a some pictures we snapped before the movie.
Pleasant Surprise from Poppytalk
A couple weeks ago Poppytalk blogged about redesigning their site. They were asking for the readers options. If you left a comment you could be selected to win a $25 gift from their handmade market. So of course Jake and I left a comment, but I really wasn’t expecting to win. It seems to me, I’m one of those people that never win anything. To my extreme surprise, we won! So we got to pick something from their market. After much deliberation we chose a screen printed poster by Fifi Du Vie with a quote on it that say “oh darling let’s be adventures. I thought it was cute.
I completely forgot about it and when I went to check the mail there was a cardboard roll covered in old looking stamps in our box. It was such a lovely, unexpected surprise. I loved the stamps so much I took a picture to show you.
Come Visit Traverse City!
One of our favorite places to buy t-shirts, Threadless.com, is hosting a themed designed competition right now. The theme is “Your City” and you’re supposed to design a shirt that represents your favorite city. Well, Jamie and I have been wanting to design something for Traverse City (my hometown and where we were married) pretty much ever since our wedding. So we took this opportunity to create a fun t-shirt promoting the Cherry Capital of the World!
It was a lot of fun to design, and Jamie even got to get some good use out of our wacom tablet. I’m always blown away at how naturally shading comes to her.
Normally, Threadless only prints one shirt from their design challenges, but since this is such a specific theme, they’re printing 10 designs. Each designer that is chosen wins $2,000 plus $500 store credit. Their decisions are influenced by user’s ratings, so if you have a Threadless account, please consider scoring our design! A Vintage Birthday
My birthday has come and gone and I’m yet another year older. Remember back in July when I was trying to think of a theme for my party? Well I had decided that this year I would throw a vintage party! I had such a fun time planing everything. I even sent out invitations in the mail (which I haven’t done since I was a kid). Mail is always fun to get and I don’t think just a Facebook event invitation would really fit well for a vintage party.
We had the party outside at a park. It was a beautiful August day. All my friends came dressed in cute sundresses, bow ties, and button down shirts. We played Lawn games all afternoon, ate homemade Snickerdoodle cake and Butter Button Cookies (made by Jake and I) . We also had fresh watermelon and of course beverages in glass bottles. Here are some pictures my lovely husband took (I took the one of him)
Jake shot and edited a video of my party too! I love him! It turned out fabulous and really captures the vintage feel and fun time.

The party was a lot of work but completely worth it. Jake’s birthday is the end of September. Hmmm, better get planing!
A Pair of Pears Design
Well it’s a long time coming, but over the weekend Jamie and I put in about 20 hours of work to officially finish our very first design gallery! You can go check it out by clicking the design button up on the navigation pane, or by clicking here. Here are a few screenshots of a couple of the pages.
Since these pages aren’t part of blogger, I had to recreate the code from scratch. It was definitely a challenge because I’ve never taken any up to date classes on web design. But because I forced myself to get it done and to do it right, I learned SO much in the process that now I want to keep doing it! (Jamie can’t believe I would ever say that).
If you take a look you’ll see that there are a handful of new designs that we’ve never talked about before. Plus we have projects in the works that we’re very excited about. We are also now offering our design services to all. If you’re interested in having something designed, just shoot us an email at hello@apairofpears.com and we can get you pricing information. There’s just so much new content coming to our blog! We hope you enjoy it!
Client Work: The NAB Triennial Conference
Thank goodness it’s friday! It’s been a busy week for us. Jake and I have been working on getting up a gallery of all our design work on our blog. It’s been a long time coming, but my super savvy husband has been able to code most of it in the evenings this past week. We still have a little more work to do but that will be up soon. Needless to say, I didn’t get to post pictures from my birthday party this week. Hopefully the weekend will give me time to catch up.
Also this week we finished work for a client. Don’t you love it when you’re done with something and can check it off your list? I sure do. It was a logo for The North American Baptist Triennial Conference that will be taking place next summer. We finalized the logo yesterday. What do you think?
Tomorrow Jake and I are going to a vintage sale over in Fullerton put on by Oh, Hello Friend and then in the evening Rio is showing in the park. That should make for a nice weekend. See you monday!
Featured on August Empress
Jake and I put a lot of thought into our blog design. It’s come a long way from when we first started the blog and put a banner together in 10 minutes. We’re proud of what we’ve done and we are proud that it was featured on August Empress for the design and color/colour combination. Jo described it as rustic, organic and rich. I think that’s about right. What do you think?
Birthday Aftermath
Birthday Girl
Today is my birthday!!! I think that deserves a few exclamation points. I’m a whopping 23 years old, although I still feel 19. We had my party yesterday. It was such a fun time with friends. The weather was beautiful and everything was just lovely. Jake and his brother Aaron took some good pictures so I’ll be posting some later this week. Tonight Jake is taking me out to dinner and our good friends, Jake and Erika are coming too! My birthday can’t get any better. I’m so blessed.
6 reasons why I love birthdays (all birthdays not just my own)

- You get whatever you want just by saying “but it’s my birthday”

- A good excuse for a party.
- And best of all you feel so loved by all the Happy Birthday wishes.
